Karkala, 20 Feb 2021 [Fik/News Sources]: People residing in tens of revenue villages in the Kudremukh area of the Western Ghats are still suffering the plight of non-availability of public transit.
School children, the sick, pregnant women, farmers and labourers have to tread 7-8 kilometres by foot or hire a rental vehicle.
Since there are no bus services too, the people of this area have to travel 8 kilometres in private vehicles to reach the main road from where they can take a bus.
Due to this reason, many residents of the villages complain that they face trouble in finding a bride or bridegroom for their marriageable aged children. Adding that during election times they are promised a solution for their problem but nothing happens after that.
Earlier, when the roads were in bad shape, there were a few private buses that plied to the villages, however, now when the roads have been repaired there are no bus services.
The villages facing dire connectivity problems in the taluk are Nooralbettu, Kodye, Gummettu, Mapalu, Kanyal, Punjaje, Kalletti, Kukkudakatte, Horabe, Kollanje, Mallanje, Kerapalke, Gundi, Batteni, Mukkila, Jangottu, Karimbiyalu, Hosmaru, Orimar, Gangeneru and Peralke.
