Bengaluru, 26 August 2020 [Fik/News Sources]: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has stated that a proposal to seek adequate compensation for losses suffered due to rain and floods in the State will be prepared after holding a meeting with all the legislators in the State. Subsequently, a detailed report will be sent to the Centre, and he himself would visit New Delhi next week to seek more funds for the State.
Yediyurappa noted this while holding a meeting with elected representatives and officials from Belagavi and Dharwad districts regarding the losses suffered due to rain and flood-like situation in both the districts, at the airport here on Tuesday.
He informed that Belagavi district had funds of Rs 412 crore for flood management and emergent works. However, more funds would be released if needed. Funds of Rs 174 crore was available for house construction, and the rest should be used for road repairs and other works.
He said, funds to the tune of Rs 488 crore have been provided to 44,156 beneficiaries from Belagavi district who lost their houses in the previous floods.
‘Respond to grievances’
Stating that problems in Belagavi and Dharwad districts had come to his notice, Yediyurappa called upon the MLAs to respond to the grievances of the people from their constituencies.
“Due to Covid-19 situation, emergency funds for works will be released under NDRF, and necessary works should be undertaken,” he said, and directed the deputy commissioners to send the reports regarding the losses suffered and funds required at the earliest.
Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi gave information about the flood situation. Revenue Minister R Ashok stated that they were planning to have a software link to provide compensation to those who lost houses in previous year’s floods, and a decision in this regard will be taken soon.
Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Water Resources & Belagavi District In-charge Minister Ramesh Jarkiholi, and Dharwad District In-charge Minister Jagadish Shettar gave information about the measures taken to manage the flood situation.
The elected representatives from Belagavi and Dharwad districts explained the situation in their respective constituencies, and sought more funds from the government.
