ANKARA, 13 Oct 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Death toll has risen to nine in Japan after Typhoon Hagibis hit the country, local media reported on Sunday.
According to the Kyodo News agency, at least 14 people were still missing, while 90 people were injured across the country.
"Over 6 million people across Japan's main island of Honshu were advised to evacuate," the report said.
At least 33 landslides and mudflows were reported in nine prefectures, Kyodo said citing the Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism Ministry.
Japan's weather agency issued an unprecedented emergency warning for Tokyo and nearby regions over the typhoon, saying heavy rain "with a level of intensity observed only once every few decades" was likely.
The agency issued the highest warning on its one-to-five scale for Tokyo and the prefectures of Gunma, Saitama, Kanagawa, Yamanashi, Nagano, Shizuoka, Niigata, and Fukushima.
As of late Saturday, the typhoon was packing winds of up to 180 kilometers (112 miles) per hour.
