Fire at Pandeshwar makes seven families homeless

Mangaluru, 25 Mar 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: The fire mishap at Pandeshwar Dhoomappa Compound on Saturday night has made seven families homeless.

The houses of Shekhar Acharya, Karthikeyan, Sudaivan, Harish Govind, Srinivas, Prakash Acharya and Ganesh Acharya were engulfed in flames. The families are temporarily staying in the houses of their relatives. They went there on Sunday morning with whatever remained in their houses.

Gangadhar, a neighbor provided his vehicle and helped to transport the belongings. Former corporator Divakar joined in. The fire that was seen on the roof of one of the houses had spread to six nearby houses. Fire service officials and staff rushed to the spot and in their three hour long operation from 8.15 pm to 11 pm, controlled and prevented the fire from spreading to more houses.

People who saw that the fire was not extinguished in a part of the house on Sunday morning, called fire services again. They arrived and extinguished the fire.

All the residents of the houses which were gutted are poor. Some of them are old.

Mangaluru tahsildar Guruprasad and village assistant Avinash visited the spot on Sunday morning and conducted inspection. They had come on Saturday night also.

Tahsildar Guruprasad said that temporary arrangement was made in the Town Hall for the stay of victims on Sunday night. “But none of them had come to stay there. Some of them went to the houses of their relatives and others stayed in the vacant house nearby. They have been asked to submit written requests regarding the loss. As the victims were in a hurry to go to the houses of relatives, it was not possible to prepare and receive appeals. The loss will be ascertained on Monday after receiving the appeals. Village accountant Avinash will conduct inquest,” he said.
