The prompt action comes in the wake of two of the most recent major tragedies of Coastal Karnataka wherein a boat went missing along with fishermen on December 15, after leaving from Malpe for fishing and has since been not found, and the Karwar tragedy on January 21, killing several devotees in the mmishap.

DIG, Coast Guard Karnataka, Surendra Singh Dasila, advised people to use the helpline effectively to avail help and assistance by the ICG during distress in the sea.

Dasila told mediapersons that the ICG with this new service aims towards reaching out to people in distress in the minimum time during maritime emergencies.
