Manki, 02 Feb 2019 [Fik/News Sources]: Gas leak from a tanker carrying acid on NH 66 at Manki of Uttara Kannada district stirred panic among the local residents on Thursday night, as they complained of breathing problem.
Manki police and fire rescue services rushed to the spot and traced the truck in a late-night operation here.
As a precautionary measure, traffic was halted on NH 66 at Manki until the police and fire services cleared the scene after containing the leakage.
Speaking to Vartha Bharati, Manki PSI Neetu Gude, confirmed the incident and added that the truck is now under the custody of police and the leakage has been contained.
“It was a leakage of Hydrocholoric Acid that the truck was carrying, after the leakage was reported, we immediately traced the truck and contained the leakage and ensured precautionary measures. Everything is clear now” Neetu told Vartha Bharati.
As soon as the reports of leakage went viral on social media, several rumors started doing rounds on local WhatsApp groups, making several baseless claims including that of the administration evacuating the village due to the leakage among others.
Manki police however rubbished all such claims and requested residents to not to pay heed to any of those rumors while also assuring that the situation has been brought under control and there is no threat now due to the leakage.
