No permission required for private programmes held in private premises: DC

Udupi, 04 Apr 2018 [Fik/News Sources]: Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis has clarified that there was no need to obtain permission from Returning Officers to conduct private functions in private premises. Addressing a news conference in DC’s office on Tuesday, April 3, she said that the private programmes like birthday celebrations, bhootha kola, marriages, anniversaries are not of political nature and hence do not require permission. However, if the private programmes are conducted in public places like auditoriums, Kalyana Mantapa etc, organizers have to obtain permission from the Returning Officers. Permission from the police is also required for usage of loud speakers. Refund Rs 27.5 crore GST to Swiggy: Karnataka HC to Centre

BENGALURU, 12 Mar 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: The Karnataka High Court on Friday directed the Union Government to refund Goods & Services Tax (GST) of Rs 27.51 crore to BundL Technologies Pvt Ltd, which operates the e-commerce platform Swiggy. The GST amount was reportedly collected during the course of investigation without following the procedures prescribed under the CGST Act. A division bench of Justices Alok Aradhe and M G S Kamal passed the order while dismissing an appeal filed by the Union Government, Directorate General of Goods and Services Tax Intelligence and others against the order of a single-judge bench. Protests in Karnataka's Hubballi turn violent, 40 arrested, 12 cops injured

Hubballi, 17 April 2022 [Fik/News Sources]: The Hubballi police have arrested 40 people for stone pelting at a police station and various public buildings and also damaging seven vehicles. In total 12 policemen have been injured of which two are admitted to a hospital.  The protest erupted in front of Old Hubballi Police Station on Saturday late night, following a social media post by the accused Abhishek Hiremath, resident of Anand Nagar in Hubballi. The accused had posted a picture of a mosque with a saffron flag on it, which led to widespread protests in the Old Hubballi area.
